Zermatt is the Americans most popular Swiss resort. And with good reason the Mediterranean winds contribute to a reliable snowfall year-in and year-out. Here you can start your downhill run from an altitude of 12,350 feet, over more than a hundred fifty miles of prepared runs and immeasurable off-piste skiing (with local guides, please).
Where to go and what to see
Three separate areas feature impressive terrain that
challenges skiers of all levels. The Matterhorn is the omnipresent feature, visible from nearly everywhere. For a bit of
adventure, you can actually ski across the border to Cervinia in Italy, where the skiing can be just as exciting as the
grappa you'll enjoy at lunch!
And Zermatt itself is the nearly picture-perfect Alpine ski resort no cars at all are allowed. You'll reach it only by train, and once there, will delight in the horse-drawn sleighs that will take you around.
