Day 1 - Wed. ROME – CAPRI – NAPLES
Early departure from your hotel in Rome to Naples. By hydrofoil travel to Capri, visit the Blue Grotto and scenic landscape. Return by hydrofoil to Naples for overnight.
Day 2 - Thur. NAPLES – POMPEII – AMALFI COAST – NAPLES
Depart for Pompeii visiting this city destroyed by Vesuvio’s eruption in 79 B.C. Continue on the panoramic road of the winding Amalfi Coast visiting Positano and Amalfi. Lunch en route. Return to Naples for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 - Fri. NAPLES – PAESTUM – MATERA – ALBEROBELLO
Visit the Paestum Archeological site with the astoundingly well preserved Greek Temples. Drive to Matera visiting the famous “Sassi”, private houses built into the soft limestone rocks. Lunch is included and depart for our overnight stop in Alberobello. Dinner at hotel..
Day 4 - Sat. ALBEROBELLO – METAPONTO – CAPO RIZZUTO or CROTONE
This morning discover Alberobello the magic city known for its Trulli, the behive structures typical for this area. After lunch, continue to Metaponto, visit to its archaeological park with the Temple of Hera Lacinia. Continue to Capo Rizzuto on the Ionic Coast, the extreme easterly point of Calabria.. Dinner and overnight
in Crotone or Capo Rizzuto.
Day 5 - Sun. CROTONE – CATANZARO – REGGIO CALABRIA – MESSINA – TAORMINA AREA
After breakfast motor to Catanzaro for a panoramic visit. Later, at Reggio Calabria, visit the Archaeological museum and in particular the Bronzi di Riace. After lunch leave the mainland by ferry for Messina in Sicily. Continue to Taormina for dinner and overnight.ght.
Day 6 -Mon. TAORMINA – ETNA – TAORMINA
Enjoy breakfast overlooking the Ionian Sea. Conditions permitting, excursion to Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. At 5400 feet we have a chance admiring the Sylvester Craters. After lunch at local restaurant, return to Taormina. Time to explore the fabulous Greek Theater on your own.
Or stroll in the narrow streets of this world renowned village. Dinner and overnight at your hotel.
Day 7 - Tue. TAORMINA – PIAZZA ARMERINA – AGRIGENTO – PALERMO
We leave romantic Taormina for the splendid Villa Romana del Casale located in Piazza Armerina. Time to admire 10’000 sq ft of intricate mosaics of swimming girls clad in bikinis, life like lions and leopards. After lunch depart for Agrigento with its Valley of the Temples. Here are six of the best preserved Greek Temples along a stretch of two miles. Dinner and overnight in Palermo.
Day 8 - Sat. PALERMO – MONREALE – PALERMOUR
Breakfast. A morning city sightseeing of Palermo includes the Palatine Chapel, the Cathedral of Palermo with the sarcophagus of Federico II who decreed the usage of today’s numbering system. Continue to Monreale for visiting the superb Cathedral and its Cloisters. Lunch on your own. Afternoon at leisure.
